The widow of Eyüp Dal, who set himself on fire outside city hall in Gaziantep last week, has said the government was to blame for her husband’s demise, the TR724 news website reported on Wednesday.
In a video that has been circulating on Turkish social media, the mourning widow said she holds President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Gaziantep Mayor Fatma Şahin responsible for her husband’s death.
“My husband was young; he was 32 years old. He died because of this government, which looks after Syrians while excluding its own people,” she said.
Dal had applied for a job at city hall in order to benefit from ex-convict quotas. He set himself on fire outside the building when his request was rejected after an initial admission.
He was hospitalized for four days until he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Speaking to a local newspaper, his mother Türkan Dal, said the young man had been looking for a job for nearly five years.
