Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed at an election rally on Friday that the election slogans of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) were coined by Pennsylvania-based Muslim cleric Fethullah Gülen and that the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) determined the candidate selection of the opposition parties.
At a rally in Fethiye in the run-up to the March 31 local elections, Erdoğan argued that the CHP is cooperating with the Gülen movement, which he accuses of plotting a failed coup attempt in July 2016, as well as the PKK, both of which he considers terrorist organizations.
