Abadi: More than half of ISIL suspects in N. Iraq camp are Turks

Turks comprise more than half of 1,300 women and children held in a camp near Mosul for suspected links to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Although Iraq has only repatriated fewer than 100 people thus far, al-Abadi told the AP that many of the people in the camp weren’t guilty of any crime and that the Iraqi government is “in full communication” with their home countries “to try and find a way to hand them over.

Hundreds of ISIL families are being held at a camp for displaced people in northern Iraq after surrendering to Kurdish forces at the end of last month, when the Iraqi military drove the terrorists from the town of Tal Afar.
