The Turkish people are “performing well” in the face of terrorist attacks targeting Turkey, Deputy Prime Minister Numan Kurtulmuş has said referring to the bombings that have been taking place in Turkey, as the latest attack on Saturday, in İstanbul’s İstiklal Avenue, killed at least 5 and injured 36.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Kurtulmuş said “Thank God, our [Turkish] people are performing well in this test. We will not bow down to the wishes of the terrorist organizations” he said. “God willing, we will pass these trying days. They [terrorists] want the people to be accustomed to terror.”
Kurtulmuş also added that the recent terror attacks in Turkey would not stop the government from building new bridges, new roads and new factories.
This is the 4th terror attack in a major city in less than six months as a deadly suicide bomb which took place in the heart of Ankara on Sunday, killed at least 37 and injured over 100 when a car bomb targeted two buses near Güven Park in the center of Kızılay.
Also on 17 February 2016 at least 30 people died and 60 were injured in a bombing when a car bomb targeted a convoy of coaches carrying both civilian and military personnel working at the military headquarters in Ankara, during the evening rush hour.
Similarly more than 102 were killed and more than 400 people were injured on 10 October, 2015, when two bombs were detonated outside Ankara Central railway station.
