Greek police said Friday they had detained two Turkish nationals who were allegedly trying to cross the border with 50 pistols.

The men were apprehended in two trucks at the Evros border crossing in Greece’s northeastern Thrace region on Wednesday night, police said in a statement.

The first truck was allegedly acting as a scout vehicle, while the weapons were found in the second truck, according to police.

Officers also found 49 magazines for the pistols. Police said none of the weapons had a serial number, making them difficult to trace.

The two drivers were accused of involvement in a criminal organization and were expected to appear before prosecutors, the statement said.
