New company registrations in Turkey down 0.6 pct in first 7 months, as closures rose 11.8 pct

Turkey recorded a 0.6 percent decline in new company registrations in January through July 2025, while company closures increased 11.8 percent, according to the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB).

In July the number of new companies rose 0.8 percent from a year earlier to 9,788, with 158 cooperatives, member-owned companies under Turkish law, also established. Company closures increased 0.6 percent year on year to 2,905, and 114 cooperatives closed. Sole proprietorship openings numbered 1,647 in July and closures totaled 1,366.

From June to July, the number of new companies established increased 33.5 percent and closures rose 13.1 percent. July saw a 46.5 percent rise in sole proprietorship openings and a 17 percent rise in cooperatives established compared to June.

By sector, most new entities in July were in trade, construction and manufacturing. TOBB reported 675 foreign-partnered company formations in the month.

Over the first seven months, cooperatives established fell 27.6 percent while sole proprietorship formations rose 20.8 percent. Cooperative closures increased 8 percent and closures of sole proprietorships fell 5.7 percent in the same period.
