Fenerbahçe coach José Mourinho has been suspended for four matches and fined more than 40,000 euros by the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) for comments made after a tense İstanbul derby against Galatasaray, Agence France-Presse reported on Thursday.
Following Monday’s 0-0 draw, the 62-year-old Mourinho said the home bench had been “jumping like monkeys” and reportedly reiterated his criticism of Turkish referees.
Fenerbahçe defended Mourinho, saying his remarks were taken out of context.
The TFF disciplinary council issued a two-match ban for his comments about the fourth official and an additional two matches for his remarks about the Galatasaray bench, ruling them “contrary to sporting ethics.”
Mourinho, whose team trails league leaders Galatasaray by six points, was also fined just over 42,000 euros.
