Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has told Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the chairman of Sudan’s governing sovereign council, in a telephone conversation that Turkey is ready to mediate in a dispute between Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, the Turkish presidency said in a statement.
The Sudanese army has repeatedly accused the UAE of supplying the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) with weapons and support in the Sudanese war, an allegation denied by the UAE. The United Nations sanctions monitors have described the accusation that the UAE has provided military support to the RSF as credible.
In the conversation Erdoğan emphasized Turkey’s initiative in resolving the disputes between Somalia and Ethiopia and described the resulting agreement as an important step towards regional stability.
He also reiterated Turkey’s commitment to support Sudan’s efforts to achieve peace and stability while ensuring that the country is not exposed to external intervention.
On regional issues Erdoğan said Turkey supports Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity and emphasized the need for an inclusive transitional government that serves the Syrian people and does not pose a threat to neighboring countries.
