Putin to receive Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan in Moscow: Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who is on a working visit to Russia, the Russian News Agency TASS reported on Tuesday, citing Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“After 6 p.m. Moscow time [3 p.m. GMT], [the president] will meet with Turkish Foreign Minister Fidan, who is here on a working visit,” the Kremlin official said.

Fidan is in Russia to attend a two-day meeting of the BRICS bloc of emerging economies.

According to Peskov, Fidan, who was having talks with Russian officials, will inform Putin about the “outcome of these talks.” The agenda between Moscow and Ankara is “quite extensive, there are a lot of subjects to discuss,” Peskov said.

Earlier, in the day, in Nizhny Novgorod, the site of the BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting, Fidan had talks with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov. Ankara had expressed interest in becoming a member of the group.

BRICS, originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, aims to counter Western dominance in the world order and has expanded since Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Iran and Ethiopia joined at the start of this year.

The current session marks the first gathering since the group expanded from five members to nine.

Another 15 countries, including Turkey, were also invited to the expanded format of the meeting.
