Turkish base in northern Iraq hit by rocket fire

Must read

A Turkish base in northern Iraq came under rocket attack Wednesday, the autonomous Kurdish region’s counterterrorism services said, with no casualties reported, Agence France-Presse reported.

As with similar attacks in the past, there was no immediate claim of responsibility.

“Eight rockets were fired at Zilkan military base,” in Nineveh province just outside the autonomous region, the counterterrorism services said.

Two rockets struck inside the compound, without causing any casualties.

For the past quarter of a century, Turkey has maintained dozens of military facilities in northern Iraq for use in its war against the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Iraqi authorities have had little choice but to accept the Turkish military presence.
