A survey conducted by the ORC Research Company has shown that 42 percent of Generation Z in Turkey would support the Nation Alliance, an opposition bloc established to challenge President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s 20-year rule, if an election were to be held in January, the Artı Gerçek news website reported.

In the ORC survey, conducted between Jan. 13 and 17 on 2,160 people between the ages of 18 and 25, respondents were asked, “Which party would you vote for if a general election were to be held this Sunday?”

While 42 percent of respondents said they would vote for the Nation Alliance, only 22 percent said they would support Erdoğan’s Public Alliance, which includes his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its ally, the far-right Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

According to the poll, the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) and its ally, the nationalist İYİ (Good) Party, would receive 21.9 percent and 20.1 percent of Generation Z votes, respectively.

The AKP would have received 15.1 percent of the young people’s support in a January election, while the MHP would have garnered only 6.9 percent, according to the survey results, which also showed that 10 percent of Turkey’s Generation Z is made up of undecided voters.

The poll also showed the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the Party for Change in Turkey (TDP), the Future Party (GP), the Victory Party (ZP) and the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA) receiving between 2.5 and 6.6 percent of the Generation Z vote.

The survey comes after Erdoğan on Wednesday suggested holding presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for June on May 14.

A survey conducted in early 2022 by the Turkey office of Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), a German political foundation, previously revealed that the majority of Generation Z in Turkey would like to live in another country if given the opportunity.

The study found that the majority of young people in Turkey tend to have a pessimistic outlook on the future of the country, especially as regards the economic situation and their own life, focused mainly on the cost of living, inflation and the fear of a potential economic collapse.

According to the findings, 62.5 percent of participants said they weren’t happy with the governance of the country, adding that it was poorly governed by Erdoğan’s AKP government, while only 5.9 percent stated that they were happy with its governance.
