Another batch of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine arrives in Turkey

A plane carrying another batch of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac landed in the Turkish capital of Ankara on Wednesday, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency reported, citing the country’s health ministry.

The government will distribute the vaccines to hospitals and health centers across Turkey after conducting the necessary tests, according to the ministry’s statement.

Ankara had signed an agreement with Sinovac for the procurement of 100 million doses of vaccine but has experienced delays in their delivery.

Turkey has administered over 25.33 million coronavirus vaccines since launching a mass campaign on Jan. 14, according to official figures.

More than 14.7 million people have received their first dose, while a second dose has been given to over 10.62 million people.

Turkey has so far been using vaccines developed by Sinovac and by Pfizer/BioNTech. The first shipments of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine are expected to reach the country this month.
