Five healthcare professionals have died over the past 24 hours while attempting to combat the coronavirus pandemic, the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) announced on Thursday.
“After we announced the news in the morning of the death of four of our colleagues, we got the news about a fifth death. We are dying every day, every minute,” the TTB tweeted.
The TTB said the government, which has failed to manage the coronavirus pandemic, covered up the real infection and death toll rates under the pretext of protecting the national interest and failed to take necessary measures, was responsible for the death of the healthcare staff.
The association has been calling on the Turkish government to take effective measures and introduce a lockdown to contain the pandemic and protect healthcare workers, who are overwhelmed by the surge in the number of coronavirus patients.
