Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its election ally, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), would lose the election in six municipalities if local elections were held today, according to the results of a survey.

Head of the Eurasia Research Center Kemal Özkiraz on Sunday announced from his YouTube Channel the results of the survey his company conducted regarding support for political parties in local administrations.

Turkey held its last local elections in 2019, when the AKP lost some municipalities, including big cities such as İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir, to the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP).

According to the Eurasia poll, the AKP would lose the Bursa, Balıkesir, Denizli and Samsun municipalities, while the MHP would lose the Manisa Municipality to either the CHP or the İYİ (Good) Party.

“The [poor] performance of the government is also being seen on a municipal level,” said Özkiraz.

Recent public surveys show the vote for the AKP, which has been ruling Turkey as a single-party government since 2002, at below 30 percent.

In the last general election held in June 2018, the AKP garnered a nationwide vote of 42.5 percent.
