Turkey’s higher education board dismisses rector attempting to hire wife at university

Turkey’s Higher Education board (YÖK) has dismissed Hüseyin Bağ, the rector of the Pamukkale University, who was accused of attempting to employ his wife at the university, the NTV news website reported on Monday.

The dismissal came after an administrative investigation over media reports claiming that Bağ created a vacancy specifically for the skills and qualifications of his wife, Derya Bağ.

The rector previously made headlines in 2017 when he attempted to employ his wife as a secretary at an institute linked to the university, a move that was prevented by a YÖK-issued warning, according to the Ahval news website.

Bağ had been serving as the rector of Pamukkale University in Turkey’s province of Denizli since April 18, 2017.
