Turkey announced 921 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the total number to 225,173, while 16 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
According to the chart the death toll has reached 5,596 with the latest additions.
“The provinces that recorded the biggest decline in the number of patients with pneumonia over the past week are Artvin, Muş, Denizli, Düzce and Erzurum. The provinces where the number of these patients has increased are Isparta, Kocaeli, Mardin and Karaman. No matter what happens, other people’s refusal to abide by [anti-coronavirus] measures should not be used as an excuse to stop observing them,” tweeted the minister.
There are 1,252 patients in intensive care, of whom 386 are on ventilators.
The chart indicated that 1,103 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.
Turkey conducted 43,312 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 4,532,672.
The chart showed that 208,477 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.
Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
