Turkey’s COVID-19 cases exceed 220,000, death toll at 5,508

Turkey announced 931 new coronavirus cases on Monday, bringing the total number to 220,572, while 17 more people have died of the disease, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart the death toll has reached 5,508 with the latest additions.

For seven days in a row the number of daily coronavirus cases has remained below 1,000, the ministry data indicated.

There are 1,243 patients in intensive care, 385 of whom are on ventilators.

The chart indicated that 992 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 43,404 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 4,316,781.

The chart showed that 203,002 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
