Turkey’s coronavirus cases increase by 1,041, death toll reaches 5,282

Turkey registered 1,041 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 208,938, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

According to the chart, the death toll has reached 5,282 with the latest additions.

“In 13 provinces, we saw a peak in the last month. New cases are mainly in these places,” the minister tweeted.

Over the past several weeks the number of new infections has been fluctuating, although it was on an upward trajectory after an easing of anti-coronavirus measures by the Turkish government as of June 1.

In a worrying sign, the number of intensive care patients increased by 20 to 1,172. It has been rising since June 10, when the figure was 631.

The chart indicated that 2,219 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours.

Turkey conducted 49,302 tests for the coronavirus over the past day, bringing the overall number of tests carried out so far to 3,782,520.

The chart showed that 187,511 people have recovered in Turkey since the start of the outbreak.

Turkey reported its first COVID-19 case on March 11. The country eased preventative measures at the start of June, opening shopping malls, cafes, restaurants and mosques.
