The daily increase of coronavirus cases in Turkey seems to be plateauing, with a range between 800 and 1,000 in the past two weeks, according to health ministry data.
The country registered 993 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 172,114, according to a chart posted on Twitter by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.
The death toll from COVID-19 reached 4,729 with an increase of 18 in the last 24 hours.
Despite the numbers, Turkey has been preparing to enter to another phase of normalization by reopening movie theaters, art centers and wedding salons after nearly two months of pandemic measures
In a worrying development, the number of coronavirus patients in intensive care continued to rise on Tuesday with an increase of 17.
“There’s no sign that the virus has gotten weaker,” Koca tweeted, underlining that social distancing measures must still be complied with across Turkey.
