Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca has announced that the age average of people who have died of COVID-19 over the past month is 74.6, the T24 news website reported on Friday.

Speaking at a videoconference with the ambassadors of 26 EU countries in Ankara, Koca said people above the age of 65 represent 93 percent of the death toll.

He added that the early treatment protocols developed by Turkey’s scientific board have greatly reduced the rate of pneumonia among hospitalized patients as well as the death rate in intensive care.

“We have the capacity to carry out 50,000 tests per day, and we have conducted a total of 2,209,583 tests so far,” Koca told the EU ambassadors.
