Ruling AKP will rig next elections, opposition leader claims

Temel Karamollaoğlu

Felicity Party (SP) leader Temel Karamollaoğlu has claimed that the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) will interfere with the outcome of the next elections, the Sözcü newspaper reported on Thursday.

“I am telling you, they will interfere with the elections. You can understand it any way you want. They will meddle in the vote count because they did it in the previous elections. They killed our people over the ballot boxes,” Karamollaoğlu said in a video interview he gave to Sözcü’s Nevşin Mengü.

Turkey’s next general and presidential elections are currently scheduled for June 2023.

He added that his party’s candidates have been threatened in an attempt to make them withdraw.

“These things are especially done in environments vulnerable to such interventions, such as the eastern and southeastern provinces,” he said. “Despite this, the public have been resisting. You cannot easily carry out such acts in İstanbul or Ankara.”
