A total of 2,357 people have been diagnosed with COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, while 99 others have died from the disease over the past 24 hours, representing the lowest number of new infections in the preceding 20 days, according to a chart posted on Twitter on Sunday by Health Minister Fahrettin Koca.

With the latest figures the total number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey has risen to 110,120, while deaths caused by the coronavirus has hit 2,805.

The minister said out of a daily testing capacity of 50,000, only 30,000 were used on Sunday because of diminishing contact among people.

“Over the past 20 days, today has been the day when the number of new cases is the lowest. The number of patients in intensive care is also continuing to decline,” tweeted the minister.

According to the data, 3,558 people were released from hospitals in the past 24 hours, bringing the number of recovered patients to 29,140.

Turkey ranks seventh in the world for the number of confirmed infections, according to Johns Hopkins University, but experts believe the actual toll of the pandemic is higher than the tally.

Nearly 890,000 people have been tested in Turkey so far.
