One-month-old baby survives COVID-19 in southeast Turkey

A one-month-old baby boy in the southeastern Turkish province of Batman has recovered from COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, and was discharged from the hospital, according to Turkish media reports.

The baby, named Muhammed, who tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks after his birth, was hospitalized at Batman Maternity Hospital. Following two weeks of treatment at the hospital, the baby tested negative for the illness and was discharged on Sunday to the applause of healthcare workers.

Muhammed’s other family members tested negative for coronavirus.

Turkey reported its first official COVID-19 case on March 11.

Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced on Sunday that the number of people who have died from the novel coronavirus in Turkey has hit 2,017, increasing by 127, while the country’s  confirmed cases increased by 3,977 to reach 86,306 in the last 24 hours.
