İstanbul Municipality dismantles Erdoğan aide’s improvements on leased property

Must read

Municipal workers in İstanbul have dismantled a series of improvements on a property on the Bosporus in İstanbul’s Kuzguncuk neighborhood leased by Fahrettin Altun, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s communications director, the Cumhuriyet news website reported on Tuesday.

Altun reportedly had set up a fireplace, a walkway and a gazebo on the property, which were removed on Monday by the municipality upon complaints from neighborhood residents.

The property was leased to Altun for 10 years by the Directorate General of Foundations.

Altun’s office has not responded to Cumhuriyet’s questions, the daily said.

Main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) members on the İstanbul City Council have filed a criminal complaint against Altun for unlicensed construction on foundation property.

Meanwhile, İstanbul prosecutors have reportedly launched terrorism-related investigations as a result of news reports in the Turkish media about the demolition on the grounds that they allegedly exposed Altun’s residential address for terrorist organizations as the leased property is located next to his home.
