A public survey conducted by the Gezici polling company shows four in 10 participants confirmed not having taken any personal measures against COVID-19, caused by the novel coronavirus, the Diken news website reported on Wednesday.

The nationwide poll, conducted on 1,068 participants from across the country on March 18-19, said those who have not taken precautions either believe that a cure will be found very soon or are convinced they will not be much impacted by the outbreak.

While 52.4 percent of respondents said they have been stocking up on food and medications, 35.2 percent said their shopping habits have not changed.

A significant majority of 70.8 percent said they approved of the Turkish government’s response to the crisis.

The participants get their information primarily from social media, with 14.2 percent saying they opened social media accounts after the pandemic broke out.

One in four said they started having mental health problems during the pandemic.
