Turkey’s youth unemployment increased to 25.4 percent in 2019 with an annual 5.1 percentage point increase, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said on Friday.
The unemployment rate also increased 2.7 percent annually, hitting 13.7 percent last year.
According to TurkStat, the number of unemployed aged 15 and over in Turkey totaled 4.4 million last year — a rise of 932,000 compared to 2018.
The non-agricultural unemployment rate stood at 16.0 percent in 2019, showing a 3.1 percent rise.
“[The] unemployment rate for the 15-24 age group [was] 25.4% with a 5.1%-point increase, [the] employment rate in this age group [was] 33.1% with a 1.9 percentage point decrease,” the institute stated.
