Two Turkish nationals living in the UK and Austria have died from the novel coronavirus, according to the Hürriyet Daily News.
Speaking to the state-run Anadolu news agency, Ozan Ceyhun, Turkey’s ambassador to Austria, said a 28-year-old woman identified as Yonca Akyol had died due to complications arising from the virus.
Akyol is the first Turkish national to die of coronavirus in Austria.
Ceyhun said “all kinds of support” was being provided to the deceased’s family. He said the Akyols were in contact with Salzburg Consul General Berkan Pazarcı and that the burial would take place “as soon as possible.”
Mustafa Akyol, the deceased’s father, said his daughter had been suffering from kidney disease and diabetes.
His daughter had been in intensive care since last Thursday, Akyol added.
Meanwhile, a 55-year-old Turkish man who was under treatment at the North Middlesex Hospital in the UK died due to the coronavirus.
Identified only as Hayri Ergönül, the deceased developed pneumonia during his coronavirus treatment.
