House sales in Turkey jump 51.4 percent in February year-on-year: report

House sales in Turkey continued their upward trend, jumping 51.4 percent in February year-on-year, the country’s statistical authority announced on Monday, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) said in a statement that some 118,750 houses were sold last month, up from almost 96,000 in the same month of 2019.

The February figure was also up from the previous month, when property sales totaled some 113,600 units.

Housing sales to foreigners were also on rise during the same period, increasing by 20.6 percent to some 4,000 residences.

İstanbul was the most popular city for foreign buyers, accounting for nearly half of such sales, at 2,000.

The Mediterranean resort city of Antalya followed with 805 properties, while the capital, Ankara, came third with 265.

The highest number of foreign sales involved Iranians, who bought 721 units in February.

They were followed by Iraqis with 691, Russians with 282, Afghans with 256, and Jordanians with 141 units.
