Turks trust Qatar the most, US the least: poll

Must read

A recent poll conducted by the İstanbul Economy Research company showed that Qatar is the country Turks trust the most and that the US is seen as the least trustworthy, Euronews Turkish service reported.

According to polling data released on Monday, 1,537 participants were asked to rate their trust in the EU, NATO, US, Russia, Qatar, China and Saudi Arabia, on a scale from one to five, with one being “I do not trust at all” and five “I really trust.”

Among the countries and international organizations, Qatar ranked first with a score of 1.67 out of 5, while the US was at the bottom of the list with 1.19. Qatar was followed by NATO with 1.58 and the EU with 1.53, while Russia was the second last with 1.23.

The average stood at 1.42, indicating a generally low confidence in the seven actors.

Euronews said the US score was affected by a harshly worded open letter sent by President Donald Trump to his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, about Turkey’s October military incursion into Kurdish-held areas in northeastern Syria.

Qatar was one of the very few countries to support Turkey’s operation.

Russia’s low score resulted from its support for the Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad, with whom Erdoğan has been at odds since the early years of the civil war in the neighboring country.
