Moscow expects positive results from Syria talks in Ankara: report

Must read

Russia’s foreign ministry said it expected positive results from Wednesday talks with Turkey on Syria’s Idlib province, the RIA news agency cited Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov as saying, according to Reuters.

A Russian delegation was expected to visit Turkey on Wednesday for talks aimed at easing rising tensions over Idlib province.

“We are expecting good results,” Bogdanov told reporters.

A previous round of talks in Moscow produced no results, as Syrian government forces continued its attacks on Turkish observation posts in the Idlib region.

Russia and Turkey had reached a ceasefire in the area earlier this year, but they accused each other of violating the agreement.

Moscow has said Ankara failed to separate moderate armed rebels from terrorist groups, such as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

Sixteen Turkish troops have been killed this month in clashes with Syrian regime forces in Idlib.
