Man thrown out of AKP group meeting after shouting ‘My children are hungry’

A man was removed from a group meeting of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Wednesday after he tried to speak out about his problems during an address delivered by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, according to the TR724 news website.

“They fired me from my job because I joined the July 15 [coup attempt]. My children are hungry. Help me. Reinstatement decisions are not being enforced,” the man said, interrupting Erdoğan’s speech.

Turkey has summarily dismissed some 130,000 public sector workers in the aftermath of a failed coup in July 2016.

The review and redress process for the purge victims has been criticized by observers and human rights groups from around the world, and some people who managed to win reinstatement to their jobs have encountered problems with the implementation of the decisions.
