Turkey’s central bank tops list of corporate taxpayers in 2018: report

The Turkish Central Bank topped the list of leading corporate taxpayers in 2018 according to the Turkish presidency, with Rahmi Koç, the honorary chairman of Koç Holding, the third highest income taxpayer, the Daily Sabah reported.

The taxpayers ranked second and third were not disclosed at their request.

Businessman Erman Ilıcak, the richest Turk according to Forbes, ranked fifth on the list, whereas the late businessman Şarık Tara, the top taxpayer in the previous year who died in June 2018, was ranked fourth.

The central bank, which paid TL10.6 billion ($1.86 billion) last year, tripling its corporate tax payment, was followed by the state-run Ziraat Bank and the privately owned Garanti and İş banks.

Six of the top 10 corporate taxpayers in 2018 were banks, the presidency announced. Also, 49 out of the top 100 taxpayers were based in İstanbul.
