Turkey’s RTÜK dismisses opposition member who brought up chairman’s income

Faruk Bildirici, a member of Turkey’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK), has announced that his membership was revoked by fellow council members after he claimed that the council’s chairman, Ebubekir Şahin, was on three different payrolls, the Diken news website reported.

In a series of tweets on Thursday, Bildirici said the revocation of his membership was proposed at the council due to his criticism of chairman Şahin.

“My removal is the price of my opposition,” Bildirici tweeted.

He previously voiced claims that Şahin was on three different payrolls and received as much as TL 60,000 ($10,500) in monthly salaries.

RTÜK members are elected in parliament, and each party has a quota proportionate to its representation parliament.

Bildirici was elected from the CHP with the vote of 283 deputies.

He was dismissed by the vote of six RTÜK members from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), an ally of the AKP in the legislature.
