Ekrem İmamoğlu, the newly elected mayor of İstanbul, has appointed Yeşim Meltem Şişli as deputy secretary-general, marking the first time a woman has been installed in that office since the current organizational structure was adopted in 1984, the Diken news website reported on Wednesday.
Şişli will reportedly oversee the departments of institutional development, human resources, training and information technologies as well as the official correspondence and purchasing offices.
She has 27 years of executive experience in the private energy sector.
İmamoğlu, from the ranks of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), was elected as the new mayor on June 23, taking over the city after 25 years of conservative rule.
