Turkey’s automobile market saw a decline of 45 percent in the first half of 2019, the Diken news website reported.

The year-on-year contraction in June was 16.4 percent. A total of 42,688 automobiles were sold, 36,024 of which were passenger cars and 6,664 commercial vehicles.

Diesel-fueled automobiles declined to 56.07 percent of total vehicles sold, while vehicles with automatic transmissions constituted 66.28 percent.

The figures were provided the Automotive Distributers Association, which has 29 members representing 47 international brands within the country.

The association downgraded its yearend estimate for total sales to between 350,000 and 400,000.
