NBA star Enes Kanter’s father will appear in court on Tuesday on charges of membership in the faith-based Gülen movement, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

Mehmet Kanter, who was dismissed from his job at a public university after a failed coup in 2016, will be tried at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court and faces five to 10 years’ imprisonment.

He previously worked at three different Turkish universities as a professor of histology.

Turkey accuses the Gülen movement of orchestrating the abortive coup, although it strongly denies any involvement.

Ankara canceled NBA player Kanter’s passport due to his ties to the movement.
