Fifth Turkish journalist attacked in May

Turkish journalist Sabahattin Önkibar was beaten in the vicinity of his house in Ankara on Friday evening, marking the fifth such attack in May, HaberTurk reported on Saturday.

Önkibar, who works for OdaTV, was reportedly punched by three assailants who emerged from a vehicle that cut in front of him.

He was hospitalized for possible injuries but is said to be in good condition.

Four suspects were apprehended in connection with the incident, three of them allegedly involved in the attack and one person who provided the rental vehicle.

Subsequently, a court released the suspects pending trial.

Four other Turkish journalists have been assaulted in May. In one of the cases the attackers were released by a court without any charges.
