A group of Turks held a protest at the Monday funeral of retired Col. Raci Tetik, 88, the infamous Ankara Mamak Prison warden who allegedly ordered torture and ill treatment after a 1980 military coup, the Artı Gerçek news website reported.

“May your fire be plenty in hell,” the angry crowd shouted during the service.

The protestors were reportedly former inmates who were subjected to torture in Mamak in the 1980s.

Turkey’s Human Rights Association (İHD), founded in 1986, said approximately 650,000 people were tortured during the ensuing military rule.

Turkish leftist publisher İlhan Erdost was among the many people who died due to beatings suffered in Mamak Prison.

In 2012 Tetik had a public conversation with Sırrı Süreyya Önder, a former Turkish deputy who was subjected to beatings in Mamak; however, he denied the allegations, saying he only maintained order at the facility.
