Turkey’s main opposition party leader on Sunday was physically attacked by a group at the funeral of a Turkish soldier who was killed by terrorists, the NTV news website reported.

After the attack, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) took shelter in a house in the neighborhood with police officers providing security.

According to the report, the attackers also threw rocks at the house and chanted slogans against the CHP and Kılıçdaroğlu.

On Saturday Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorists killed four Turkish soldiers near the Iraqi border.

The pro-government media have been attacking CHP politicians for making an alliance in the local elections with the Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his ruling party depict as an extension of the PKK, despite the fact that it is represented in the Turkish parliament.

Kılıçdaroğlu later left in an armored vehicle provided by the police.

Turkey’s Defense Minister Hulusi Akar was reportedly with Kılıçdaroğlu at the house while he was waiting for the crowd to disperse.

In June Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu told governors to avoid CHP officials attending the funerals of martyred Turkish soldiers, a move that drew heavy criticism.
