Former HDP deputy subject of investigation over tweet praising PKK

Must read

The Van Public Prosecutor’s Office in eastern Turkey has launched an investigation into former Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Nadir Yıldırım on accusations of disseminating terrorist propaganda, the state-owned Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.

Yıldırım is the subject of an investigation for tweets praising the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which has been fighting the Turkish state for Kurdish autonomy since the early 1980s.

“We have never been helpless because there is the PKK. The PKK will not end. It has finished off lots of fascists. It will finish you off as well. Wait for your turn,” the former deputy from Van tweeted.

He also noted that there has always been a place named “Kurdistan” and there will always be, in reaction to Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s assertion that there is no such place as Kurdistan in Turkey.
