‘Do you know how much a bullet costs?’ Erdoğan says in response to high food prices

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at a campaign event on Friday reacted to grievances about increasing food prices by pointing out the high cost of the fight against terrorism, the T24 news website reported.

Speaking at a rally in the province of Sivas where he kicked off his campaign for Turkey’s local elections slated for March 31, Erdoğan addressed recent debates on social media about food prices.

“All this talk about tomatoes, eggplants and green peppers. Do you have any idea how much a bullet costs? Think about the cost of getting our soldiers ready to fight terrorists. And here you are talking about tomatoes and potatoes. Some people are complicit, while George and Hans are trying to hit us,” Erdoğan said, presumably referring to Western countries.

Erdoğan further hinted at a possible government intervention aimed at regulating prices by selling produce via municipalities.
