Actress Nazlı Masatçı was sent to jail on Wednesday after being charged with disseminating terrorist propaganda in a play performed by a theater shut down during a state of emergency declared after a failed coup in Turkey in July 2016.
Masatçı was an actress with the Yenikapı Tiyatrosu before the theater was shuttered by the government on terrorism charges. She was put in pretrial detention in İzmir.
Her friends and family said they would make a statement in the days to come, the Mezopotamya news agency reported on Thursday.
