Former AKP deputy on Sarah Jessica Parker: Ardent supporter of Israel, father is Jewish

Aydın Ünal

Following a report that famous American actress Sarah Jessica Parker is to publish a jailed Kurdish politician’s book, a former deputy from the governing party in Turkey wrote that Parker’s father is Jewish, that she is an ardent supporter of Israel and that she is mostly known for her work in “Sex and the City.”

Former deputy Aydın Ünal, who was also a speechwriter for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, targeted Parker in his column in the Yeni Şafak daily on Monday.

On Friday, a photo in Vogue magazine of Parker holding the book by jailed Kurdish opposition leader Selahattin Demirtaş went viral in Turkey.

“Her father is Jewish, she is an ardent defender of Israel. She is best known for [American TV series and movies] ‘Sex and the City’,” the former deputy wrote in an effort to defame the actress.

According to Ünal, Parker has called Palestinians “terrorists.”

Parker’s publishing house is publishing a collection of short stories by Demirtaş for distribution in the US, due for release on April 23, 2019, according to Amazon.

Parker, who owns the SJP for Hogarth publishing house, was spotted in New York on Thursday with the book, titled “Dawn” (Seher in Turkish).

Vogue magazine said her latest look proved that “… sometimes, being cultured is even better than owning the latest It bag.”

Demirtaş, who has been in jail since November 2016, wrote the book while in a high-security prison in the Turkish province of Edirne, where he is still being held. One of Turkey’s most popular politicians, Demirtaş ran unsuccessfully for president of Turkey in 2014 and again in 2018, conducting his campaign from behind bars.
