Teams from the Uşak Gendarmerie Command in western Turkey have seized six handwritten copies of the Torah in two vehicles that were under surveillance, the T24 news website reported on Thursday.
The gendarmerie teams launched an operation based on a tipoff that some historic artifacts were being brought to Uşak to be sold.
Following technical and physical surveillance by the gendarmerie teams, two vehicles were stopped in Uşak and searched, as a result of which the six handwritten Torahs were seized. The copies have reportedly been returned to the institutions where they were on display.
Two individuals have been detained by the gendarmerie in connection with the seizure of the holy books.
