Support for Turkey’s AKP stands at 41 percent, CHP 25 percent: poll

A recent poll conducted in October by the MetroPoll company suggests that in a general election the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) would garner 41 percent of the vote while the opposition Republican People’s Party would get 25 percent, the Diken news website reported on Tuesday.

The raw distribution of votes demonstrated 34.1 percent for the AKP, 21.3 percent for the CHP, 10.3 percent for the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), 8.3 percent for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), 7.7 percent for the İYİ (Good) Party and 21.1 percent undecided.

After a redistribution of undecided voters, support for the AKP was at 41 percent, while it was 25 percent for the CHP, 12 percent for the MHP, 10 percent for the HDP and 9 percent for İYİ.

The poll was conducted before MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli announced that they would not form an alliance with the AKP in local elections scheduled for March 29, 2019.

The poll also suggested that the job approval of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had declined 2 percent to 39.8 percent, while those who disapproved of him stood at 46.2 percent.

Among the political parties, Erdoğan received the endorsement of 82 percent of AKP voters as well as 49 percent of MHP voters.
