Menderes Atilla, mayor of Şanlıurfa’s Ceylanpınar district from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), has threatened to fire municipal workers if they do not vote for his party, the solhaber news website reported on Monday.

“I swear on my honor that will fire them and put them back on the unemployment rolls if they don’t vote [for the AKP and Erdoğan],” Atilla said during a recent AKP election rally in Ceylanpınar, located in southeastern Turkey.

Turkey will hold snap presidential and parliamentary elections on June 24.
