Republican People’s Party’s (CHP) presidential candidate Muharrem İnce paid a visit to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is the Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) leader and presidential candidate for the June 24 presidential election, at AKP headquarters in Ankara on Wednesday evening.
The meeting lasted about half an hour. İnce was accompanied by CHP Deputy Chairman Engin Altay.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, İnce said, “We wished him [Erdoğan] success and chatted.”
AKP Deputy Chairman Mustafa Elitaş also made a brief statement following the meeting between Erdoğan and İnce.
“It was a nice meeting. It turned out that both of them are from Rize [a Black sea province],” Elitaş said.
Earlier in the day, İnce also visited pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) deputy and presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş in Edirne Prison, where he has been incarcerated since November 2016.
Turkey will hold snap presidential and general elections on June 24, a year and a half earlier than original scheduled.
