One of Turkey’s deputy prime ministers, Hakan Çavuşoğlu, has said there are no leaders in any European countries and that Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is the only leader in the world followed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at a meeting in Kocaeli province on Monday, Çavuşoğlu said: “There is an important thing lacking in the world today. … Today what is felt to be missing in Europe, the West and the world is a leader. There is a lack of leaders. Look at France, Germany, Italy and Spain, it is the technocrats who are ruling these countries. There are only two leaders in the world. The first one is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who can only be followed by Putin. There is no other leader.”
Çavuşoğlu said Erdoğan is the hope of the Muslim ummah and one who defends their rights and acts as their voice.
According to the deputy prime minister, Western countries do not have the courage to fight against Turkey and take revenge for their ancestors who were defeated by the Turks a century ago during Turkey’s War of Independence, so they are using terrorist organizations as subcontractors to cause unrest on Turkish soil.
It is very common for Turkish government officials including President Erdoğan to use anti-European and anti-Western rhetoric and present them as enemies of Turkey.
Turkey is a candidate country for EU membership, but its membership process has stalled due to the lack of any progress in Turkey on reforms required by the EU.
