For the first time in the history of the Turkish Republic, a woman, Professor Huriye Martı, has been appointed as the deputy president of Turkey’s Religious Affairs Directorate, known as the Diyanet.
The appointment of Martı by the Turkish government was published in the Official Gazzette on Tuesday.
Martı had been teaching at the theology faculty of Necmettin Erbakan University.
Professor Ramazan Muslu and Diyarbakır Mufti Burhan İşleyen were appointed as the other deputy presidents of the directorate.
