2 more journalists arrested on terror charges by Turkish court

Veli Büyükşahin and Veli Haydar Güleç, the two journalists from the now-defunct TV 10 television channel, were arrested and put in pretrial detention on Thursday.

TV10 is one of at least 180 media outlets the government shut down in the aftermath of a July 15, 2016 coup attempt.

Detained on accusations of membership in a terrorist organization, the pair spent some 10 days in police custody along with several dozen people including local members of the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

An Istanbul court ruled for the arrest of the journalists and 13 others while releasing the remaining detainees on judicial supervision.

Turkey has jailed at least 319 journalists since the failed coup, with some of them subsequently released or cleared of charges. (Turkey Purge)
